The Common Thread
Subaru calls it
Uncommon
Adventure racers just
call it home.
Subaru has spent decades building for people who take the road less travelled, all‑weather, all‑road, all‑season, 365 days a year.
Adventure racing is that same instinct turned into a sport. Leave the marked path, trust your team, find your own way through.
Uncommon machines. Uncommon people.
One shared trail.
“Welcome to Uncommon” is a trademark of Subaru Canada Inc.
The Sport, In Plain Terms
It’s The ultimate team adventure through wilderness
Paddle
Canoe or kayak across lakes and rivers.
Navigate
Map and compass. The skill that wins races.
01
No marked course. No set route. Teams get a map and a list of checkpoints hidden across the wild, then move on foot, bike, and paddle to find as many as they can before time runs out. The fastest path is rarely the obvious one.
THE Five DISCIPLINES
Trek
Run and hike across trails and wild terrain.
Rope
Ascend or descend fixed ropes.
Bike
Mountain bike forest roads and singletrack.
You don't follow the trail. You choose it.
Most races hand you a line to follow. Adventure racing hands you a topographic map and a compass, and asks you to figure it out. Every course is built for the landscape it's in, so no two races, and no two teams' routes, are ever the same.
It's part endurance, part puzzle. Success comes down to grit, smart decisions when you're tired, and a team that moves as one. You don't have to be the fastest or the strongest. You have to keep going, and keep thinking.
GET THE MAP
The course is revealed at the start. You plot the checkpoints and plan your route.
02
Find Checkpoints
Move together as a team through each discipline, collecting points along the way.
03
Beat the Clock
Most points in the least time wins. Finish together or you don't finish at all.
Uncommon Benefits
The race is the
excuse. The reason
is everything else.
Uncommon Presence
NO SCREENS. JUST THE WILD.
No phone, no notifications, no blue line to follow. For hours or days, the only thing that exists is the map in your hands and the people beside you. Most racers say it's the most present they ever feel.
Uncommon Belonging
THE FRIENDLIEST HARD SPORT.
It's a small, tight community. You start a race with dozens, not thousands. Veterans coach newcomers at the start line. You finish knowing names, not bib numbers.
Uncommon Grit
HARD NOW. LEGENDARY FOREVER.
The kind of challenge that's brutal in the moment and unforgettable after. You find out who you are when it gets hard, and walk away with a story you'll tell for the rest of your life.
Uncommon Ground
WHERE THE ROAD ENDS.
Adventure racing takes you deep into places most people will never see: ridgelines, hidden lakes, old growth forest. You move through the landscape instead of past it.
Uncommon Teamwork
YOU CAN’T DO IT ALONE.
Teams of two to four move together. It rewards trust, communication, and shared commitment.
Uncommon Start
CLOSER THAN YOU THINK.
You don't need elite fitness or fancy gear. A sprint race is a half day, beginner friendly intro. Borrow a bike, bring a friend, and go.
the 2026 series
Five races.
Pick your start line.
From a beginner friendly half day to a seven day expedition, the Subaru Western Canada series is a ladder you can climb one race at a time.

Seek EVery Trail.
Subaru’s all electric Trailseeker and Uncharted were built for exactly what this series demands: traction when the ground turns, range to reach the trailhead, and zero tailpipe emissions to protect the wild you're racing through. The trailhead is the start line, and this is how the team gets there.

The Beaten Path
The Beaten Path
Coming Soon · Presented by Subaru
The Beaten Path is a cinematic documentary following the 2025 Adventure Racing World Championships, an 800 km expedition from Pemberton to Penticton, British Columbia, hosted by Expedition Canada.
The film goes behind the race to highlight what it takes to bring an event of this scale to life, from the organizers and volunteers to the communities, Indigenous territories, and wild places that shape the course.
With 60 teams from 25 countries racing through 7 communities and 17 Indigenous territories, The Beaten Path captures the human stories behind the sport, the spirit of adventure racing, and the extraordinary places waiting just beyond the beaten path.
